Frequently Asked Questions
Is Freedom Futures Right for Me?
Freedom Futures is for Care Leavers who are wanting to move out of the care system into independent privately rented accommodation, and who are serious about making the most of every opportunity for a bright future.
Because you will have a tenancy in your own name you need to be at least 18 years old on the day you move in. But if you are 16 or 17 years old and already planning for your future then we would love to hear from you too!

How Does Freedom Futures Actually Work?
If we think you could be right for the scheme then we will meet with you and your Personal Advisor (PA) a number of times to help you prepare for signing a tenancy and moving in. At these friendly meetings we will explain in detail how every part of your tenancy works so there are no surprises when you move in.
Like any private tenancy it will be you (not Children’s Services) who will be responsible for paying your rent - BUT DON’T WORRY - we make sure the cost of our tenancies are never more than the amount you are eligible for through Universal Credit. That means you can continue to study full-time for your future without worrying about how to pay the rent.
As a Care Leaver you will have a Pathway Plan that you have agreed with your PA. At Freedom Futures we’d like to support you with achieving the goals in your plan if you‘d like us to. There is no obligation to work with us for a certain number of hours per week if you’d rather not. All that we ask is that we can pop in once a week, at a time convenient to you, to make sure you are coping ok and that you have everything you need.
How Do I Become A Freedom Futures Tenant?
Once we have met several times with you and your Personal Advisor (PA), we will all be able to decide if Freedom Futures is the right option for you. If it is, then we will ask you and your PA to sign a ‘Participation Agreement’. This shows we are all serious about you moving in and means we can start helping you get your finances ready, get your tenancy agreement ready, and make sure your current accommodation knows that you will be moving out.
We don’t like to do anything in a rush, and its important we work together as a team - you, your Personal Advisor, and Freedom Futures - to make sure that renting with us is a fun and positive experience for you.
